In this episode Amy had the pleasure to sit with Michelle Gerdes, Michelle is a postpartum doula and yoga instructor, teaching at Honor Yoga Hamilton, located in Hamilton (Mercer County) NJ. After graduating from Rutgers with a degree in Journalism, Michelle’s first career took off in big New York City newsrooms including WNBC and The Wall Street Journal. Working on the front lines of journalism came with high stakes, constant deadlines, and enormous stress—all things she thrived on, until she didn’t.
As I got to know Michelle, I became intrigued by her journey, which brought her from the overtaxed life of a news editor to her current profession, where she a lifeline to parents. I was also touched by her willingness open up about her struggles with work-life balance and postpartum depression.
Michelle is the founder of Princeton Doula Center (princetondulacenter.com), which helps families adjust after baby comes home; and teaches Roots, Gentle and Baby & Me classes. Michelle also holds a certification in perinatal mood disorders.
